If he is found guilty, the accused will face a maximum of 15 years in prison
A Russian man has been charged with 729 counts of rape against his five adopted daughters during five years in the Russian city of Komsomolsk-on-Amur, according to local media. Police sources say that four of the girls were forced to have sex with him daily.
The nightmare did not come to end for these young girls until one of them found the courage to tell her teacher what was happening. Her disclosure triggered an investigation that brought to light the conditions in which the girls were forced to live. The girls' exact age and identity has not been made public, but they are all under 17.
Ilya Gudkov, from the Khabarovsk Regional Investigative Committee, said: 'According to the investigation, from September 2012 to February 2017, the man systematically committed serious crimes of a sexual nature in relation to five guarded girls. After an appeal by the investigators, the court ordered the arrest of this man.'
Police sources say that four of the girls were forced to have sex with him daily.
The man who made the girls' lives a living hell had become their guardian after they were sent to be fostered in his home by an orphanage in the region. According to The Siberian Times, the man is believed to to have been paid about 20,000 roubles – £265 – for each girl in his care.
The accusations have triggered an investigation into whether there was negligence on the part of local childcare authorities, and under what circumstances authorities deemed it fit to approve the fostering arrangements of five young girls with a single man. Alla Kuznetsova, education minister for the region, said repeated inspections had not revealed any problems.
According to Kurnetsova, the five minors have now been sent to an orphanage. If convicted of rape, the man faces a maximum of 15 years in jail under Russian law.
