A domino effect and thousands of dollars up in smoke
We millennials need a new exclusive club, one adapted to our social context. Something that sums up the very essence of our ethos. And it should somehow be connected with selfies. While trying to make yourself look cool on Instagram and completely fucking it up.
Why not open the Selfie Museum Fail Club? An exclusive club for all those who have destroyed works of art while trying to take a selfie with them. First, there was that guy in Italy who broke an 18th-century sculpture, then we had the bloke who trod on a pumpkin worth $800,000, and finally the girl who triggered a calamitous domino effect at an exhibition in Los Angeles just this week, wrecking half the installation.
Unfortunately for the most recent arrival to the club, the whole scene was caught on camera and is already spreading like wildfire on the Internet.
I bet you thought it was going to be the girl in the middle.
Now play it again. Knowing who’s fault it was from the beginning allows you to better appreciate how cringeworthy the scene really is.
The incident took place in The 14th Factory gallery in Los Angeles and, according to what one of the exhibiting artists, Gloria Yu, the ‘three sculptures were permanently damaged and others to varying degrees. The approximate cost of damage is $200,000.’
This is what the piece looked like before the unfortunate event
Now, if you have a sadistic streak you might be wondering: are they going to make the girl cough up for her clumsiness?
