Wedding bells - Tennis ace Serena Williams has married Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian in one of the most high-profile weddings of the year. The pair wed in New Orleans on Thursday in a Beauty & the Beast-themed ceremony. 200 guests attended, including showbiz royalty such as Beyoncé, Kim Kardashian, Eva Longoria, tennis star Caroline Wozniacki, Kelly Rowland, Ciara, La La Anthony and Vogue editor Anna Wintour.

Mugabe clinging on - Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe is seeking to cling on to power after a dramatic but bloodless military take over on Wednesday night. His former vice-president Emmerson Mnangagwa, who Mugabe fired last week, is tipped to take over as the nation’s leader. Although Mugabe has tried to fight his corner during talks with military officials, claiming that he is the only ‘legitimate’ person for the role, his 37-year reign looks to be coming to an end.

Efficiency at its best - A Japanese train company has profusely apologised after one of its services left the platform 20 seconds early. ‘We deeply apologise for the severe inconvenience imposed upon our customers,’ said the Metropolitan Intercity Railway. The apology was issued despite no one seeming to notice when Tuesday’s Tsukuba Express pulled away from Minami Nagareyama station, just north of Tokyo, at 9.44.20am rather than 9.44.40am.

Future now - Tesla has unveiled its first electric articulated lorry, designed to challenge diesel trucks. The highly-anticipated Tesla Semi has a range of 500 miles on a single charge. The company says the vehicle - known in the US as a semi-trailer truck - will go into production in 2019.

Presidential swipes - Donald trump attacked two-term Democratic senator Al Franken on Twitter on Thursday night after he apologised to Leeann Tweeden for ‘jokingly’ groping her during a tour of the Middle East in 2006. Many online users have been quick to point out that Trump, who has been accused of sexual misconduct by 16 women, is no angel. Does he think people have forgotten the infamous ‘Grab ‘em by the pussy’ bombshell video?

Russian intervention - Russia vetoed a United Nations Security Council resolution on Thursday that would have renewed a mandate for the independent group investigating chemical weapons attacks in Syria. Russia's move drew harsh criticism from US Ambassador Nikki Haley, who said Russia had struck a ‘deep blow to efforts to identify those using chemical weapons and deter future attacks.
