He brutally slit the animal's throatAn Australian man has been arrested in Melbourne after a video surfaced online showing him brutally wounding an already injured kangaroo. The viral clip sees the 43-year-old man approach a wounded kangaroo lying on the side of a road. He sneaks up on the animal from behind, and then grabs its tail and stomps on its back. The man then repeatedly cuts the animal’s throat with a knife until it dies. Authorities in the state of Victoria have said the man in question has been charged with destroying protective wildlife. Firearms and knives were also seized from his home. If the man is found guilty, under state law he can be sentenced to up to two years in jail and be issued a fine of A$38,056 (£23,000; $30,000). ‘We take all alleged cases of animal cruelty very seriously,’ said Glenn Sharp, a spokesman for Victoria's Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning. ‘The wildlife offences captured in this video are particularly abhorrent.’ The man has been granted bail until he appears in court at a later date.
