Officers from Wildlife department in Sri Lanka recently rescued one of the most enormous crocodiles ever seen in the island, after getting trapped in a city water canal while looking for food.
The huge reptile was found in the southern city of Matara and its weight was estimated in around a ton and a half, measuring over 18 feet long. The animal was found last Monday stuck in a canal leading to the Nilawala river.
It is believed that the giant crocodile was there hunting for food and, after the water level went down, the animal couldn't leave on its own because of its size.“ The crocodile was too big to move out from the canal” explains Ravindra Kumar, member of Sri Lankan Wildlife department.
“With the help of town neighbours and local Police we finally were able to let the crocodile go back to its natural environment without any harm” he said.
The massive croc was pushed back to the river using a digger, a tractor and a big truck.
