Rebranding cheap stuff as designer wear and selling it for a fortune seems to be becoming a trend among the big fashion brands.
The latest to join the bandwagon are Rihanna and Puma, who, with impressive chutzpah, have decided to sell super expensive jelly sides which look suspiciously like the sort of cheap plastic sandals you can buy at almost any marketplace across Asia for $1.
Could Rihanna and Puma be accused of indulging in a spot of cultural appropriation? That might be worth arguing about. But what nobody can deny is that it takes an impressive amount of cheek to charge around $80 for something you can buy on AliExpress for $1.
And isn't it kind of weird that a hip company like Puma is ripping off AliExpress, rather than the other way round?
Meanwhile, across Asia, these plastic slippers are sold at roadside stalls and markets for $1.
The brazenness of Rihanna's move has been a little much for some people to take.
Several people have had fun pointing out what these types of slippers are most often used for in their native countries: going to the toilet.

Rihanna has yet to reveal the price of her new sandals, but considering that her previous footwear came in at a cool $90, we can safely say that her jelly slides will cost a hell of a lot more than a dollar...
