The actor fighting tooth and nail to defend his art exhibit, went and got himself arrested.
Shia LaBeouf was arrested on Thursday for ‘scratching’ and ‘pushing’ a man in front of the He Will Not Divide Us art installation outside New York’s Museum of the Moving Image. The project – a collaboration between LaBeouf and artists Nastja Säde Rönkkö and Luke Turner – is a livestream protest against new president Donald Trump.
A New York Police Department spokesman said that LaBeouf grabbed the scarf of a 25-year-old man, ‘causing a scratch to the man’s face,’ and then pushed him, which made the victim fall to the ground. Those were the acts that led police officers to go to the museum and arrest the actor for ‘misdemeanour assault’ and ‘harassment’. It’s not the first time LaBeouf has got himself embroiled in such scenes. Just a few days ago, he shouted down a white supremacist who was attempting to disrupt the actor’s livestream protest. The victim refused medical assistance. It is also uncertain whether or not the young man belonged to a white supremacist group like the individual involved in the previous altercation at the exhibit. LaBeouf inaugurated his installation – He Will Not Divide Us – on the 20 January, to coincide with the signing-in of Donald Trump. The actor told the Associated Press that the project was not anti-Trump but rather ‘anti-division’. ‘I’m just saying, “Be nice to each other,”’ the actor said. Unless the ‘other’ happens to be, you know, a neo-Nazi.share
