A couple of years ago, Sia told Ellen DeGeneres that the reason she always wore a face-obscuring wig was to maintain her privacy.
'Well, it's so I can go to Target and buy a hose if I want to. Or if I find I'm in need of a restroom, I can go by the side of the road, no one would be following me with a camera trying to get a shot,' the Aussie said.
But last Wednesday, when the singer went to Los Angeles Airport to take a flight to Dubai – where she was due to perform at the weekend – she decided to go wig-free. She probably wanted to avoid any potentially awkward run-ins with airport officials wanting to check her face against her passport photo.
We assume that this was an exception rather than a change in the way Sia manages her public image because, as she made clear in an interview with Chris Conley, anonymity is essential for her: 'I don't want to be famous or recognisable. I don't want to be critiqued about the way that I look on the internet.'
