The mysterious death has prompted international attentionFootage has emerged of Kenneka Jenkins, who was found dead in a freezer on Sunday 10 September, hours before her body was found.
The 19-year-old died at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Chicago in mysterious circumstances, with police in Rosemont, Illinois sharing a video of the woman to help determine what happened. Footage shows Jenkins stumbling through a hotel corridor at 3.30am, unable to walk in a straight line or coherently move through the premises. She enters the hotel’s catering and kitchen area in a disorientated state, before disappearing from view. Witnesses last saw her on the ninth floor of the Crowne Plaza, and her mother has added that she was alone trying to retrieve her car keys. She was found at 1pm the next day. Activists and protesters have called for the investigation into Jenkins’s death to be handed over to the FBI, but Rosemont police have said that it will remain in their hands. A statement from police Chief Donald Stephens released on Monday evening said: ‘This investigation has been and remains the utmost priority for us.’
The statement came after a memorial for the late teenager was held in Chicago’s Douglas Park on Saturday, which was followed by a march to FBI headquarters, where protesters expressed their dissatisfaction with the video released by police.
