The bride-to-be transformed heartbreak into heroism
Imagine it’s the lead-up to your wedding. Invitations have been sent. The venue has been booked. Guests have made travel arrangements for the big day. And you want to call the whole thing off.
The thought alone is enough to make you never want to get married, but a US woman turned her heartache into joy when she transformed her cancelled $30,000 ceremony into a banquet for the homeless.
Sarah Cummins, 25, called off her wedding (for reasons that are unknown) which was due to take place at the extravagant Ritz Charles in Carmel, Indiana, only to find out that the arrangements were non-refundable. So, instead of letting the plush bash go to waste, she contacted local homeless shelters and arranged for buses to pick up people for the 170-seat extravaganza.

Retailers in the area joined forces with Ms Cummins and donated suits and occasion wear for the attendees to dress themselves, according to Associated Press. The world isn’t doomed, after all.
Speaking to the Indy Star, Ms Cummins divulged: ‘It (cancelling the wedding) was really devastating, I called everyone, cancelled, apologised, cried, called vendors, cried some more and then I started feeling really sick about just throwing away all the food I ordered for the reception.’
After clearing the idea for a homeless meal with her ex-fiance, Logan Araujo, she worked with her wedding planner to see out her vision. The food menu on the day comprised chicken breast with artichokes and Chardonnay cream sauce, bourbon-glazed meatballs, goat cheese and roasted garlic bruschetta, and a decadent wedding cake.
Some of Ms Cummins’s family members attended the dinner at the venue's enclosed garden pavillion, as well as three bridesmaids who were due to walk down the aisle with her. Not even abandoned nuptials could stop this wedding party having a good time!
And, Ms Cummins has taken her mother on a luxury getaway to the Dominican Republic, a holiday that was booked for her honeymoon previous to the break-up. It just goes to show that every cloud has a silver lining.
