Security cameras capture the theft
A man in New York has stolen an 86-pound bucket containing gold flakes valued at $1.6 million. The aluminium bucket was inside an armoured truck but the door was left open and unattended. The guards didn’t see the man reach in and grab the bucket.
Despite the heaviness of the loot, the man managed to carry it through the crowd until he reached his van and drove away. Police aren’t certain whether the thief – between 50 and 60 years of age – knew what he was stealing.
Authorities received a tip that the man might be in Florida. They’ve shared photos and videos of the suspect, asking citizens for help finding him.“I think he just saw an opportunity, took the pail and walked off,” NYPD detective, Martin Pastor, told NBC New York.
